cat in the hat option 1 psychoanalytical criticism

I am doing my psychoanalytical criticism on the cat in "The Cat in the Hat".

Many people would argue that the cat in "The Cat in the Hat" is an id characteristic. Looking at the book, overall I would say he is an ego. Scene by scene the cat would have more of id characteristics but at the end he also became the superego. This would be, overall, how he found the balance between his id characteristics and his superego, making him an ego. In the beginning of the story the cat barged into the narrators and sally's house. He came in looking for all the things that an id would look for, fun, pleasure and attention. Indirect characterizations given off of the cat that suggest his id in the beginning of the book would be through many things. One big indication is action. In the beginning the cat came unannounced to the narrator and sally’s house. Then he played many “fun” but bad games like “up up up with the fish.” The cat was also an id because he created almost all the problems that the narrator and sally faced. He let thing 1 and thing 2 out and they started running around and creating more problems. Another indirect characterization that suggest that the the cat was the id was the rations to others. In the book, the narrator and sally did not exactly approve of the actions of the cat although they did not object to them. But the fish constanly told the cat that he was doing bad things and needed to go. But at the end of the book, the cat in the hat became the superego. He understood that he was not wanted and he left. but before he left, he took back thing 1 and thing 2 and started to clean the mess he made. He said that he always cleaned up his playthings. and the narrator and sally also was thankful that he cleaned. This shows that the cat is an superego through out the whole book because he was a id in the beginning and was the superego in the end, showing that he is his ego; showing that you can still be good, even if he was bad.

The cats roles in the story, because he posses roles of the id and the superego, then making him the ego also makes a cat seem like the "person" who makes a moral in the story. The moral in the story that he creates is that even its is okay to do things that are fun, you just need to know when to stop and pick up after yourself. The cats role in the story was to create the obsticales and learn from his mistakes.
